pen game

Summary:

So ‘Pen Game’ is a friendly doodle tournament, where two ‘artists’ have to go head to head, and doodle a randomly generated phrase, that comes from a randomly selected adjective and noun, for example ‘Clammy Idea’ (shout out to my g, Brogan for the idea). In this case the artists had 5 minutes per round to complete their doodles, and then the public decided which of the 2 doodles best represented the given phrase! The chosen winner then progressed to the next round.

The great thing about this, was that nobody, including myself, had any idea what phrase would be generated next. So it was a real test, that would stimulate your imagination, but you could just have complete fun with it and  let the inner child play for a moment.

I decided that the winner should be rewarded with a very shoddy handmade trophy, crafted by yours truly, along with a £25 Hobbycraft e-gift card to help support their creativity. The homie Alex from Hometown Projects also gifted the winner with a tee and sticker from their latest release, so shout out to him too.

I’ve always wanted to do something that  friends and creatives of any skill level could get involved with, that was focused around illustration, and being in lockdown really gave me time to think about how I could achieve that. As this was done during quarantine, the contestants competed via webcam, on a live stream that I set up on Twitch, but I hope to continue this event and hold the next one in person.

Also please check out ‘Secret Walls’ which do illustration battles, in a slightly different format, on an international scale, they throw wicked events and were a big inspiration in the creation of Pen Game.Love to everyone that tuned in!
